It’s illegal because Washington wants to stop them from doing the very same things they want to GET out of marrying: filing joint tax returns (which gives them more credits and deductions than ANY other filing status), obtaining right of succession (OUTRAGEOUSLY important when it comes to housing), and right of inheritance. By stopping them from doing these things, Washington gets to forcibly seize all that money at nuclear MiRV-point and put it all back in their own pockets.Oh… and this is coming from someone who is NOT an atheist.

it’s because people are notorious for thinking they are better than someone who is different than them. Gay people are different therefore they are less of a person. Just like back in the days when black people weren’t even considered people, they were items of property and laws were made that dictated just how hard someone could beat another human being as long as they “owned” them. It’s just gonna be another long struggle of about 15 years of so before people realize “oh yea when we said ALL men were created equal, it means GAY people too…” Jeez are we just gonna have to start treating everyone equally regardless of race, gender AND sexual orientation…now you’re just asking us to be wayyy to tolerant
